The end of Season 18 is nearly upon us and as Season 19, and a new era of car, approaches, Omega Sports F1 has the latest news from the driver market!
What better place to start this edition of Paddock Rumours than with the newly crowned champion Jason 'Ramdrop' Dyer? It is no secret that he is on the radar of many of the top teams within Formula FUSION, but which of these many lucrative offers has he selected? The latest, and perhaps most shocking news, is that Dyer has indeed signed for Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, with a clause in his contract that has allowed him to bring his friend and team mate from Sauber, Oscar, with him. How strong a lineup will this be? We need only wait until Australia to find out.
Having been forced to miss the last two races of the season due to budgetary constraints, Brad 'Westyy' Westgarth has confirmed his runner-up status in this season's championship battle. Many have labelled him the driver of the season, having fought valiantly until all possibility of a championship win had disappeared. But where does this leave him for Season 19? Rumour has it that Mercedes have made a serious offer for Westgarth, with the potential for an all-British lineup should Callum Ashmore also join the Brackley-based squad from Red Bull. The Mercedes/Westgarth deal seems to be all but a certainty, leaving him in strong stead for the new season.
Ben 'Omega' Prior has long been rumoured to be returning to Ferrari for Season 19. The Maranello squad were impressed with his skills in Season 17, when he came incredibly close to a maiden drivers' championship and also secured the constructors' championship with the help of team mate Wouter 'Morturiom' Merks. Some sources suggest that Prior may already have signed for the Scuderia, however there is some uncertainty regarding who will be his team mate. Behind the scenes, contractual issues have reportedly prevented Wouter Merks from signing as soon as he would have liked to, leaving a gap in a highly sought-after seat, at least for the time being. Will Merks have to search elsewhere?
Readers may remember the last issue of Paddock Rumours in which we covered the possibility of Samuel 'Smu3l3y' Morris moving to Renault for next season. This deal seems to have fallen through, with the two available seats at Renault now blown wide open. Instead, Morris may have agreed a pre-contract with the Haas team, securing his preferred Ferrari-engined car at a team who have worked very closely with the works outfit in the past. A solid signing for Morris, should it prove to be true.
Lastly, it has been widely reported after recent races that ex-McLaren driver, StevieP, will be retiring at the end of Season 18. After an illustrious career spanning over 90 race appearances, Stevie seems to have decided to hang up his helmet after 'running out of steam' over his final seasons. However, although he is likely to retire from racing Formula One cars, Stevie has been linked with a GT3 appearance for an as yet unnamed team. Could this prediction turn out to come true? It would certainly be an interesting change of disciplines...
